
From a humble dream to a thriving bakery—Mylene and her husband now serve success and fresh bread to their community in the Caraga Region.
What began as a modest dream fueled by hard work and determination has now grown into a thriving local bakery business for Mylene and her husband in the Caraga Region.
The couple, both former employees of a local bakery, took a leap of faith in 2024 when they established Rabamitos Bakery, combining their passion and expertise in breadmaking.
Mylene shares that they became deeply familiar with every step of the baking process—from mixing ingredients and kneading the dough, to baking the bread in a traditional oven; “Nagsimula po ito being an employee po sa ibang bakery tapos naisipan namin ng asawa ko na mag tayo ng amin, para makatulong sa aming pamilya,” (We started this after working as employees in other bakeries. We decided to open our own to help support our family.)
Through sheer dedication and perseverance, the couple was able to steadily grow their small enterprise over the course of a year. Their efforts began to bear fruit, with Mylene noting a significant improvement in their income and their ability to invest in necessary equipment—something they could not afford while earning minimum wage as employees.
“Makikita mo talaga na may kita ka, kasi being an employee kulang talaga ‘yung minimum wage pero nung nagka-negosyo kami, naka pundar kami ng gamit,” (We could really see the difference. As employees, the minimum wage wasn’t enough. But now that we run our own business, we’ve been able to buy equipment and grow,) Mylene said.
Keen on expanding both their business and their entrepreneurial knowledge, Mylene approached the OVP-Caraga Satellite Office to apply for support through the Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day program.
In June 2025, Mylene was among the 57 micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) owners in Caraga who received a ₱15,000 livelihood grant from the OVP. With the additional capital, the couple was able to increase the volume of their baked products—including their bestsellers: bread with ube and chocolate filling.
The grant also helped them make significant strides in expanding their business. Mylene and her husband have since started building a small store for their baked goods and processed food products. Additionally, they have opened a rice retail outlet to further diversify their sources of income.
Grateful for the opportunity and support, Mylene expressed her appreciation to the OVP, saying the program has not only provided financial assistance but has also given them renewed hope and confidence in their business journey.
