The Department of Education (DepEd) allowed the suspension of in-person classes and the shift to alternative delivery modes or blended learning across the country.
This as the intense summer heat is seen to compromise the health and safety of the country's learners, teachers, and non-teaching personnel.
Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte said classes may be done through ‘blended learning’ – the combination of traditional and other teaching methods such as modular or the use of self-learning modules that are printed or in digital format.
DepEd has given the school heads the authority and discretion to suspend the conduct of in-person classes in accordance with the DepEd Order no. 037 issued in 2022, which will be effective whenever there is a disaster or unexpected events.
“Mainit ang panahon pwedeng mag switch into blending learning, kasama na rin kung mayroong baha o bagyo, nag su-switch din tayo to blended learning. Kung saan wala tayong in-person classes pero patuloy ang pag-aaral ng mga bata sa kanilang modules,” VP Sara said.
Meanwhile, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the drought or El Niño started last March 22 this year and may continue until May.
Based on the data from PAGASA, the highest heat index this year was recorded at 53 degrees Celsius on April 28 in Iba, Zambales.
Pinayagan ngayon ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang pagkansela ng ‘in person classes’ o magpatupad na lamang ng ‘blended learning’ dahil sa matinding init ng panahon na tinatamasa ng buong bansa.
Ayon pa kay Vice President at DepEd Secretary Inday Sara Duterte, patuloy ang pag-aaral ng mga bata sa pamamagitan ng blended learning - ang pagsasama ng traditional at iba pang paraan ng pagtuturo tulad ng modular o paggamit ng mga self learning module na printed o naka-digital format.
Ito rin ang nakasaad sa DepEd Order no. 037 na pinalabas ng Kalihim noong taong 2022 kung saan maging epektibo tuwing nagkakaroon ng hindi inaasahang pangyayari.
Paliwanag ni VP Sara, “Mainit ang panahon pwedeng mag switch into blending learning, kasama na rin kung mayroong baha o bagyo, nag su-switch din tayo to blended learning. Kung saan wala tayong in-person classes pero patuloy ang pag-aaral ng mga bata sa kanilang modules.”
Samantala, ayon naman sa Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical at Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), nagsimula ang tagtuyot o tag-init noong Marso 22 ngayong taon na ramdam sa buong bansa.
Batay sa inilabas na datos ng ahensya, naitala ang pinakamataas na heat index ngayong taon sa 53 degrees Celsius noong April 28 sa Iba, Zambales.
Inaasahan na magpapatuloy ang init ng panahon hanggang Mayo ngayong taon.
