Former rebels receive livelihood support from the OVP through Mag Negosyo Ta Day program.
Ten former members of the insurgency group New People’s Army received livelihood support from the Office of the Vice President.
The Magnegosyo Ta ‘Day (MTD) fund will help the beneficiary jumpstart a different life following years of fighting government forces in a war that has taken a heavy toll on the lives of civilians and the growth of the nation.
A turnover ceremony occurred at the 403rd Infantry Brigade led by the OVP Southern Mindanao Satellite Office in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon last August 1.
The former rebels expressed their gratitude towards the program of the OVP.
“Pasalamat gyud mi og dako kay nagbalik naman gyud mi diri sa gobyerno, dako na natabang pud para sa amoa bisag wala pa ni nahuman ang among kaso pero naa nami mapaabot puhon. Salamat gyud sa tabang sa Mag Negosyo Ta Day,” (We are truly grateful for the opportunity given to us on returning to the government. This support is a huge help for us. Even though our cases are not yet resolved, we have something to look forward in the future. Thank you very much for the assistance from the Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day program,) alias Haki, a former rebel said.
This marks the first time that former insurgents benefited from the program.
In her message, Vice President Sara Duterte expressed hope that the surrenderers will continue to rise and embrace the spirit of being a Filipino once again.
VP Sara emphasized the importance of doing what is right for the benefit of all.
She also left a reminder to the Filipino youth to protect themselves against terrorism and insurgency.
“May your love for your country grow stronger, enabling you to stand against the last strongholds of communism and insurgency in Mindanao. These threats have robbed some of your peers of their freedom, but your patriotism will help safeguard liberty of all,” VP Sara said.
