Vice President Sara Duterte leads the awarding of MTD livelihood grant to the beneficiaries.
Four out of five Filipinos aspires to establish their own businesses based on the 2023 OCTA Research survey which reflects a strong entrepreneurial spirit driven by job uncertainty, rising living costs, and the desire for financial independence and a better future.
Recognizing this ambition, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) continues to expand its Magnegosyo Ta Day (MTD) Program, initially launched by Vice President Sara Duterte during her tenure as Davao City Mayor.
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in the country’s economy. According to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), MSMEs accounted for 99.5% of registered businesses in 2019, employing 62.4% of the country’s workforce.
“Mahalaga sa ekonomiya ang mga small and medium enterprises dahil ito ‘yung mga negosyo na mga maliliit pero madami so ibig sabihin pag sinamasama mo sila napakalaking tulong ‘yun sa ekonomiya ng isang siyudad o nang isang bansa,” (Small and medium enterprises are important to the economy because, even though they are small businesses, there are many of them. This means that when combined, they provide significant support to the economy of a city or a country,) VP Sara said.
Understanding the need to empower aspiring entrepreneurs, the Vice President expanded the MTD Program on a national scale upon assuming office.
“Sa Office of the Vice President meron tayong Magnegosyo Ta Day, itong Magnegosyo Ta Day nagbibigay tayo nang training sa ating mga women sector and LGBT sector. Tuturuan natin sila kung paano magnegosyo at binibigyan natin sila ng seed money para masimulan ‘yung kanilang negosyo dahil kita naman natin kokonti lang kasi ‘yung big businesses talaga. Nakakatulong sa isang lugar tulad ng Davao City at ‘yung mga small and medium enterprises,” (At the Office of the Vice President, we have the Magnegosyo Ta Day program, which provides training for the women and LGBT sectors. We teach them how to start a business and provide them with seed money to help them get started. This is important because there are only a few big businesses, and small and medium enterprises play a crucial role in supporting local economies, especially in places like Davao City,) VP Sara said.
Last year, 16 groups with over 1,000 active members benefitted from the program. The breakdown of beneficiaries includes five groups from Luzon, six from Visayas, and five from Mindanao.
Additionally, 489 individuals received a livelihood grant of PHP 15,000 each, enabling them to start or expand their businesses.
With the continuous expansion of the MTD Program, beneficiaries are witnessing sustained growth in their ventures. The OVP remains committed to fostering economic empowerment and inclusivity by supporting small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs across the country.

Base sa datos ng 2023 OCTA Research survey, apat sa bawat limang Pilipino ang nangangarap na magtayo ng sarili nilang negosyo na pinapakita ang matibay na diwa ng pagnenegosyo na dulot ng kawalan ng kasiguruhan sa trabaho, tumataas na gastusin sa pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay, at hangaring magkaroon ng pinansyal na kasarinlan at mas magandang kinabukasan.

“Sa Office of the Vice President, meron tayong Magnegosyo Ta Day. Ang programang ito ay nagbibigay ng pagsasanay sa ating kababaihan at LGBT sector. Tinuturuan natin sila kung paano magnegosyo at binibigyan natin sila ng panimulang puhunan upang masimulan ang kanilang negosyo. Mahalaga ito dahil kakaunti lamang ang malalaking negosyo, kaya’t ang mga maliliit na negosyo ay may malaking papel sa pagpapaunlad ng lokal na ekonomiya, lalo na sa mga lugar tulad ng Davao City,” wika ni VP Sara.
