The General Santos (GenSan) Medical Center in SOCCSKSARGEN remains a vital and trusted partner of the Office of the Vice President – Southern Mindanao Satellite Office (OVP-SMSO), working hand in hand to deliver accessible, quality medical assistance to Filipinos in need.
The General Santos (GenSan) Medical Center in SOCCSKSARGEN continues to serve as a key partner of the Office of the Vice President – Southern Mindanao Satellite Office (OVP-SMSO) in providing medical assistance to Filipinos in need.
As a Level 2 hospital, GenSan Medical Center offers a wider range of medical services compared to many other healthcare facilities in region 12.
According to the hospital’s Administration Head, Kevin Paul Palaca, their partnership with the OVP began in August 2022, shortly after the election of Vice President Sara Duterte; “GenSan Med Center started the partnership with the Office of the Vice President way back in August 2022 after the election of good Vice President Sara Duterte. But even before that, we already had an existing partnership with the Office of the President under the leadership of Tatay Digong before way back in 2018 and with that we just continued from the Office of the President to the OVP.”
Palaca commended the OVP for its efficiency and integrity, particularly in the implementation of the Medical Assistance Program; “The reputation of the OVP is very good. Wala siyang issues ng delayed payments, wala siyang issue ng you can call it delayed procedures, wala siyang ganon na reputation. Kami, as a private institution, we are very positive, we appreciate that kind of relationship.” (The reputation of the OVP is excellent. It has no issues with delayed payments or procedural delays—nothing of that sort. As a private institution, we view this very positively and truly appreciate that kind of partnership.)
He emphasized the significant impact of the OVP’s medical assistance, not only for residents of General Santos City but also for patients from neighboring towns and provinces.
"Before these kinds of network, indigent patients seemingly are afraid to get admitted in a private institution. Mahal, walang pera, hindi kaya magbayad. ‘Yun ang picuture before these initiatives came into the picture. With the partnership with the OVP, it made patients not afraid to get admitted in a private hospital like GenSan Medical Center because alam nila kahit wala silang pambayad, pwede silang maka-avail ng healthcare services because nandiyan ‘yung mga tulong, nandiyan ang tulong ng OVP. So, with that we empower them to get admitted,” (Before these kinds of networks existed, indigent patients were often afraid to seek admission in private institutions. It was expensive, they had no money, and they couldn’t afford to pay—that was the reality before these initiatives came into place. But through the partnership with the OVP, patients are no longer afraid to be admitted to private hospitals like GenSan Medical Center because they know that even if they can’t afford to pay, they can still access healthcare services, thanks to the assistance provided by the OVP. In that sense, we empower them to seek the care they need,) Palaca shared.
Palaca also recognized the vital role the OVP plays in helping patients access quality healthcare services in private hospitals like GenSan Medical Center.
“To the good Vice President Sara Duterte, maraming salamat ma’am for choosing GenSen Medical Center as one of your partners. It is our high hopes and prayers that your programs get sustained and continue as this motivates and continues to inspire patients, especially those indigent patients here in General Santos City. We pray for you, God bless, God bless the Office of the Vice President,” Palaca said.
Looking ahead, GenSan Medical Center is hopeful that medical and burial assistance programs through the OVP's satellite offices will be reinstated and even further expanded to reach more Filipinos in crisis.
