The OVP Libreng Sakay Program continues to provide free and accessible transportation to commuters in Cebu, offering much-needed relief amid rising fuel and transportation costs.
Amid rising fuel prices and transportation costs, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) continues its Libreng Sakay Program, providing safe, comfortable, and free transportation to thousands of commuters in Cebu.
The program operates in Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City, helping workers, students, senior citizens, and other passengers save on daily transportation expenses.
In Cebu City, regular passenger Leah Tabanya said the program has eased her financial burden by helping her save on fare costs saying , “dako kayo og impact labina karon nga galisud ang mga tao sa pamilite,” (This has brought us great relief because we can save on transportation fare).
Meanwhile, in Mandaue City, 23-year-old Princess Sohon shared that she has benefited from the program since her student days and continues to rely on it as a working professional.
“Malipay ko pag makasakay kay makalibre man ko sa pamasahe. Kadtong estudyante pa ko nagatipid ko sa pamasahe (I am happy whenever I get to ride because I can save on transportation expenses. Back when I was still a student, the program helped me save money on my fare), she said.
In Lapu-Lapu City, frequent passenger Jenny Lawron expressed her appreciation for the free ride service, noting that it provides a comfortable and convenient commute while helping passengers save money.
“Perting lipaya gyud namo oi, liman ka libreng sakay, layo layo bya at komportable ang byahe (We are truly very happy. Just imagine, it's a free ride even though the destination is quite far, and the trip is comfortable as well), she said.
Another passenger, Sara Malinaw, said the program is especially helpful during difficult economic times when the prices of basic commodities continue to rise.
The OVP Libreng Sakay buses operate across Cebu province on the following schedule:
Mandaue City: Monday and Tuesday
Cebu City: Wednesday and Thursday
Lapu-Lapu City: Friday and Saturday
Trips are scheduled from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Since its launch, the program has served more than three million commuters nationwide. Nine bus units currently operate across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, providing free and accessible transportation services to Filipinos.

Sa gitna ng pagtaas ng presyo ng langis at pamasahe, patuloy na isinasagawa ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) ang Libreng Sakay Program upang magbigay ng ligtas, komportable, at libreng transportasyon sa libu-libong commuter sa Cebu.
Saklaw ng programa ang mga lungsod ng Cebu, Mandaue, at Lapu-Lapu, na tumutulong sa mga manggagawa, estudyante, senior citizen, at iba pang pasahero na makatipid sa kanilang araw-araw na pamasahe.
Sa Cebu City, sinabi ng regular na pasaherong si Leah Tabanya na malaking ginhawa ang naidudulot ng programa dahil nakakatipid siya sa gastusin sa biyahe.
“Dako kayo og impact labina karon nga galisud ang mga tao sa pamilite (Malaking ginhawa ang dulot nito sa amin dahil nakakatipid kami sa pamasahe),” ani Tabanya.
Samantala, ibinahagi ni Princess Sohon, 23 taong gulang mula sa Mandaue City, na nakinabang na siya sa programa mula pa noong siya ay estudyante at patuloy niya itong napakikinabangan ngayong nagtatrabaho na siya.

Ayon naman kay Sara Malinaw, malaking tulong ang programa lalo na sa panahong patuloy ang pagtaas ng presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin.
Ang OVP Libreng Sakay ay may sumusunod na iskedyul sa Cebu:
Mandaue City: Lunes at Martes
Cebu City: Miyerkules at Huwebes
Lapu-Lapu City: Biyernes at Sabado
