Farmers and fisherfolks in Barangay Tamban, Tinambac, Camarines Sur receive food bags from the OVP's RIICE Program, supporting local livelihoods.
A total of 196 farmers and fisherfolk from Barangay Tamban in the municipality of Tinambac, Camarines Sur have received food bags distributed by the Office of the Vice President (OVP)– Bicol Satellite Office (OVP-Bicol SO).
The initiative was carried out under the OVP’s Relief for Indigents and Individuals in Crises and Emergencies (RIICE) program, which aims to provide immediate support to Filipinos affected by calamities and other emergencies.
Each beneficiary received a food bag containing five kilograms of rice and canned goods.
According to the OVP–Bicol SO, the assistance was timely as many livelihoods in the area have been affected by intense heat and recent typhoons.
Among those who received assistance was 54-year-old Crisanto Alberto, a coconut farmer from the community.
He shared that their main livelihood, coconut farming, has suffered due to the extreme weather conditions.
“Mahina ang harvest namin ngayon marahil dahil sa sobrang init ng panahon at sa ganitong mga buwan ng taon, mahina talaga ang harvest at ngayon dinaanan pa kami ng bagyo,” (Our harvest is poor right now, probably because of the extreme heat, and during this time of the year, the harvest is usually low—and this time, we were also hit by a typhoon,) Alberto said in the local dialect.
He also lamented that while coconut prices are high, the low yield has made it difficult to earn enough.
“Kokonti ang bunga ng niyog sa ngayon,” (This could have been a good time to sell coconuts, but the trees aren’t bearing much fruit,) he added.
Alberto also expressed his gratitude to the OVP for the timely support provided to their family.
“Maraming maraming salamat Vice President sa ibinigay ninyong kaunting tulong para sa amin. Salamat po!” (Thank you very much, Vice President, for the small help you gave us. We truly appreciate it!) he said.
He noted that the food pack would last their household about a week, as they are only three members.
The OVP continues to roll out its RIICE program in various parts of the country to support vulnerable communities in times of need.

Ikinuwento niya na apektado ng matinding init ng panahon ang kanilang pangunahing kabuhayan na pagtatanim ng niyog.

Aniya, tatagal ng halos isang linggo ang food pack para sa kanilang tatlong miyembro ng pamilya.
Patuloy ang pagpapatupad ng OVP ng RIICE program sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa bilang tulong sa mga komunidad na higit na nangangailangan.
