The UNO-DOS Association gratefully receives their livelihood grant from the Office of the Vice President, made possible through the Mag Negosyo Ta 'Day program—empowering communities one small business at a time.
The UNO-DOS Women Vendors Association in Barangay Singcang-Airport received a significant boost to their small business ventures after being granted a ₱150,000 livelihood grant, facilitated by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) – Panay and Negros Islands Satellite Office through its Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day (MTD) program.
Established in 2021, the association is composed mostly of sari-sari store owners and small-scale vendors. Today, it continues to empower 37 active members through collective business efforts.
According to Melita Sioco, Vice President of the association and a beneficiary of the OVP’s MTD program, the grant was used to purchase trays of eggs which they now sell both individually and in bulk to other neighborhood stores.
“After one week, nag buy na kami ng mga egg. ‘Yung una naming binili 350 trays sa isang malaking company ng egg dito sa Bacolod tapos next sa Bantayan naman, 350 trays ‘yung gi-purchase namin and kahapon lang, 100 trays,” (After just one week, we started purchasing eggs. Our first order was 350 trays from a major egg supplier here in Bacolod. Then, we bought another 350 trays from Bantayan. Just yesterday, we purchased 100 more trays,) Sioco shared.
Eggs are sold at ₱11 to ₱12 apiece, generating regular income for members. The association has already begun supplying other sari-sari stores in the area, helping improve the livelihoods of not just their members, but also the broader community.
“Binibenta namin ang itlog sa halagang 280 pesos kada tray, binibenta naman ito ng mga miyembro ng 300 – 320 pesos kada tray,” (We sell the eggs at ₱280 per tray to our members, and they resell them at ₱300 to ₱320 per tray,) Sioco added.
She expressed gratitude for the support they received, stating that programs like MTD have made a meaningful impact on grassroots communities.
“Napakalaking tulong talaga ang naibigay sa amin ng Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day, kung suswertihin at mabigyan pa kami ulit ni VP Sara mas mapapalago pa namin ang negosyo ng asosasyon. Baka sa susunod makabenta na rin kami ng bigas o baka makapatayo kami ng sari-sari store,” (Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day has truly been a huge help for us. If we're fortunate enough to receive additional support from VP Sara, we could further grow our association's business. Maybe next time, we could start selling rice or even set up a sari-sari store,) Sioco said.
