VP Sara Duterte toured the OVP Pop-Up Exhibit and led the “First in Line: The Vice Presidents of the Philippines” coffee table book signing.
In celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the Office of the Vice President, with its theme—Duty. Continuity. Legacy— Vice President Inday Sara Duterte led the reopening of OVP Extra+Ordinary: The Vice Presidents of the Philippines Pop-Up Exhibit, this time in Abreeza Ayala Malls in Davao City.
The exhibit displays the legacies of the 14 statesmen and stateswomen who serve as the second-highest leader of the land, including the services that they have championed.
Another highlight is the First in Line: The Vice Presidents of the Philippines coffee table book signing, highlighting nine decades of service in the country. Former President and now Pampanga’s Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo graced the event.
“For decades, the Vice Presidency was misread—set aside, kept in reserve, and treated as proximity to power rather than power itself. The assumption was that standing one heartbeat from the presidency is a position of waiting, not of purpose. That assumption was always wrong. This exhibit and the book, First in Line, are the permanent record of fourteen leaders who held the Republic together. They were not always celebrated. They were always necessary,” Duterte said.
The Vice President also encouraged the Filipino youth to look at the nation's history and understand the roles played by leaders who often served behind the scenes.
“I ask you to be the keepers of the record. Because every republic stays alive, not just because it has a past, but because its youth has the courage to demand a history that is honest, complete, and unvarnished. Duty, continuity, legacy. Don't just read about them, defend them,” Duterte said.
The exhibit will be brought to several locations across the country to make the history of the vice presidency more accessible to the public.
