Vice President and former Department of Education Secretary Sara Duterte underscored the importance of the National Learning Camp (NLC) in addressing learning losses.
“The NLC is a critical initiative supporting the national learning recovery program, part of the department’s commitment to addressing the learning loss aggravated by the health crisis,” VP Sara said.
VP Sara expressed her satisfaction as the number of learners participating in the NLC has significantly increased this year.
Data from DepEd showed that the NLC 2024 held at San Fernando Central School, Cebu has gathered around 2,183,327 learners. In 2023, only around 938,341 learners attended the NLC.
According to VP Sara, cooperation is essential to establish and promote the NLC successfully.
“A whole-of-community approach that brings together parents, barangay officials or local government units, partners, principals and other educational leaders are central to the learning camp,” she said.
The same stakeholders, she said, is equally central on how education is adequately and effectively provided to Filipino children.
At the core of the NLC lies the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ — and this is reflected by the willingness of stakeholders to commit to the movement to educate learners.
She also expressed her gratitude to the teachers who volunteered to be part of NLC, which made the event successful.
“To our teachers, DepEd and Non-DepEd teachers, thank you for all the good work. Thank you for volunteering to be part of the NLC, for spending more time with our learnings, teaching them, helping them to become better. Ika nga, ang kalidad ng pagkatuto ay nakasalalay sa kalidad ng pagtuturo,” VP Sara said.
The NLC was divided into three categories: the Enhancement Camp, which broadens a child's competencies; the Consolidation Camp, which helps learners apply their acquired skills; and the Intervention Camp, which provides targeted support for high-need learners in foundational mathematics and English skills.

“Ang NLC ay isang mahalagang inisyatiba na sumusuporta sa pambansang programa para sa pag-recover ng pagkatuto, bahagi ng pangako ng kagawaran na tugunan ang learning loss na pinalala ng krisis sa kalusugan,” pahayag ni VP Sara.
Ipinaabot ni VP Sara ang kanyang kasiyahan dahil sa pagtaas ng bilang ng mga mag-aaral na lumahok sa NLC ngayong taon.
Ayon sa datos mula sa DepEd, umabot sa 2,183,327 na mga mag-aaral ang dumalo sa NLC 2024 na ginanap sa San Fernando Central School, Cebu kumpara noong 2023 na nasa 938,341 na mga mag-aaral lamang ang dumalo.
Ayon kay VP Sara, mahalaga ang kooperasyon para sa matagumpay na pagtatatag at pagsusulong ng NLC.

Nakasentro sa NLC ang diwa ng ‘bayanihan’—at ito ay nasasalamin sa kagustuhan ng mga stakeholder na makiisa sa kilusan para sa mas dekalidad na edukasyon.
Pinasalamatan din ni VP Sara ang mga guro na nag-volunteer sa NLC, na nagbigay ng malaking kontribusyon sa tagumpay ng aktibidad.

Ang NLC ay nahahati sa tatlong kategorya: ang Enhancement Camp, na nagpapalawak ng kakayahan ng isang bata; ang Consolidation Camp, na tumutulong sa mga mag-aaral na i-apply ang kanilang natutunan; at ang Intervention Camp, na nagbibigay ng tiyak na suporta para sa mga mag-aaral na nangangailangan sa pundamental na kasanayan sa matematika at Ingles.
