Vice President Sara Duterte consoles family members of victims who lost their lives in the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the SOCCSKSARGEN Region. Duterte also visits injured survivors receiving treatment in hospitals.
Vice President Sara Duterte personally visited several areas in Mindanao severely affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck on June 8, to express her condolences to families who lost loved ones in the tragic disaster.
Among those visited by the Vice President was the family of a deceased couple from Barangay Tuyan in Malapatan, Sarangani Province. She also paid visits to bereaved families at St. Peter Chapels in General Santos and Villa-Gan Funeral Homes in General Santos City.
In addition to meeting with grieving families, Vice President Duterte visited earthquake victims currently receiving treatment in hospitals, including patients confined at Sarangani Provincial Hospital, General Santos Doctors Hospital, and St. Elizabeth Hospital.
During her visits, she checked on the condition of the injured patients and conveyed messages of hope and encouragement as they continue to recover. She also joined families in prayer, offering support for the swift recovery of the injured and strength for their loved ones during this difficult time.
The Vice President likewise urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities as recovery and rehabilitation efforts continue in affected communities.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Vice President’s Kalusugan Food Truck, through the OVP-Southern Mindanao Satellite Office, was among the first responders to assist following the earthquake. The initiative delivered hot meals and drinking water to frontline responders and rescuers engaged in search-and-rescue operations in General Santos City.
Based on available data, a total of 250 rescuers and frontliners were served by the Kalusugan Food Truck.
FO3 Ressa Mia Betoya, Public Information Officer of the Bureau of Fire Protection in General Santos City, expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the program, saying, “Malaking bagay siya [KFT] para sa amin [rescuers] kasi hindi lang siya panlaman-tiyan at nagbibigay ng nutrisyon sa amin, kundi nakaka-boost din siya sa morale po naming mga rescuers na nandito sa dangerous na site. Nagbigay siya ng positive impact din po sa amin maliban sa pagbibigay ng laman sa aming tiyan.”
