Vice President Sara Duterte urges Filipinos to work hand in hand to make the Philippines safe and rabies-free.
Vice President Sara Z. Duterte joined the nation in observing National Rabies Awareness Month this March, calling on Filipinos to take concrete steps to protect their families and communities from rabies.
In her video message, Duterte emphasized that rabies remains a serious health threat, but is both preventable and controllable through vigilance and responsible action.
“Ang kaligtasan ng ating pamilya ay nagsisimula sa ating mga sariling bakuran” (The safety of our families begins in our own backyards), the Vice President said.
Duterte encouraged the public to follow three key measures to help prevent the spread of rabies.
First, by ensuring that pets are vaccinated, as it remains the most effective protection against the deadly virus. She also encouraged residents to take advantage of free vaccination drives in their barangays and local veterinary offices.
Second, by being responsible pet owners through ensuring that family pets do not roam freely outside their homes or along the streets, reducing the risk of bites and other accidents.
Third, she advised individuals who are bitten by animals to seek immediate medical attention and proceed to the nearest Animal Bite Treatment Center for proper treatment.
The Vice President emphasized that being alert and responsible helps protect not only individual families but also the wider community. She then called for unity and cooperation in building a safer and rabies-free Philippines.
