Following the devastating 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu Province on September 30, 2025, Vice President Sara Z. Duterte personally visited the hardest-hit areas to assess the situation on the ground, ensure that immediate assistance reached affected residents, and offer heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.

Duterte personally visited the affected areas to check on the condition of the residents and extend her condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.
During her visit, Vice President Duterte offered prayers for the victims and expressed deep sympathy for those who continue to suffer from the aftermath of the earthquake.
“We are fervently praying for your safety in Cebu and other parts of the Visayas affected by the earthquake and aftershocks. We ask God to grant comfort to those who have lost loved ones, and to provide relief and strength for those holding their families together amid property loss and damage.
May you find strength in one another and may the legendary Visayan warmth and resilience shine through amidst this deep sorrow,” VP Sara said.
The Vice President also expressed gratitude to the rescuers, volunteers, and local officials who have been working tirelessly in the rescue and relief efforts.
As part of her visit, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) launched a large-scale relief operation through the OVP–Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor Satellite Office. Relief packages and RIICE boxes were distributed to affected families.
The OVP Eastern Visayas and Panay and Negros Islands Satellite Offices also joined in the relief initiative to extend assistance to hard-hit communities.
According to initial data from the Cebu Provincial Government as of October 5, 2025, the earthquake affected 209,972 families, with 71 confirmed fatalities, 3 individuals reported missing, and 592 injured.
The strongest impact was recorded in Bogo City, the epicenter of the earthquake, as well as in Medellin, San Remigio, Daanbantayan, Sogod, and Borbon. Other municipalities such as Tabogon, Tabuelan, Tuburan, Bantayan, Sta. Fe, Catmon, Carmen, San Francisco, and Madridejos were also severely affected.
The quake left widespread destruction, damaging homes, government buildings, and infrastructure across northern Cebu. Several roads and bridges were rendered impassable, hampering the delivery of aid to remote areas. Many displaced families have been forced to sleep on the streets out of fear of aftershocks and unsafe structures.
VP Sara reaffirmed her commitment to continue supporting recovery efforts in Cebu and other parts of the Visayas, emphasizing the importance of unity and compassion in overcoming this tragedy.
