The OVP continues its partnership with West Metro Medical Center in Tetuan, Zamboanga City to provide accessible and quality healthcare to Zamboangueños.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) continues to collaborate with institutions across the country, in pursuit of its mission to deliver accessible healthcare to Filipinos. One of its key partners in the Zamboanga Peninsula is the West Metro Medical Center, located along Veterans Avenue Extension in Tetuan, Zamboanga City.
The partnership between the OVP–Western Mindanao Satellite Office and West Metro Medical Center began in 2022. Since then, the collaboration has helped bridge the gap in medical services, particularly for residents from geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs).
Dr. Joseph Michael Nepomuceno, Chief Executive Officer of West Metro Medical Center, described the collaboration as fruitful and impactful.
“The partnership of the OVP started upon the proclamation of Vice President Sara in 2022, so immediately after the office forwarded the memorandum of agreement and then we started accepting referrals and patients assisted by OVP. We have started notice of improvement of referrals. By 2023, there are more than 700 patients referred by OVP and roughly 15.9 million, considering all the patients from 2022 to 2024, that’s the amount provided by the Office of the Vice President in terms of Medical Assistance including diagnostics, admission and pharmacy related needs of our patients from Zamboanga,” Dr. Nepomuceno said.
Dr. Nepomuceno also shared his personal connection with Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, recalling his time as a medical professional in Davao City during the latter’s tenure as mayor. He expressed admiration for her commitment to public service and quality healthcare.
“’Yung office at ‘yung leader na meron tayo sa nasabing office will really take care of people, will really provide in alignment with mission for accessibility, affordable and quality healthcare services,” (The office and the leader we have right now genuinely care for the people and are truly committed to the mission of providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services,) he said.
For Dr. Nepomuceno, partnerships like this are vital in addressing the needs of underserved communities stating that; “We are not just giving then the first aid, the basic medical assistance. We are informing them that if they really need to be admitted, and if they really need consultation, they can come to West Metro because again, one of our partners is OVP.”
He emphasized that the collaboration enables hospitals like West Metro to reach patients who would otherwise not have access to specialized medical care; “This collaboration that allowed us to really put in action what we want to happen and again that’s providing accessible and assured quality health care service to the people of Zamboanga.”
According to OVP–Western Mindanao Satellite Office, a total of 1,048 individuals have already benefitted from this partnership, receiving much-needed medical assistance.
The continuing alliance between the OVP and West Metro Medical Center stands as a testament to what can be achieved when government and private institutions work hand in hand for the well-being of the Filipino people.

“’Yung office at ‘yung leader na meron tayo sa nasabing office will really take care of people, will really provide in alignment with mission for accessibility, affordable and quality healthcare services,” dagdag pa niya.
We are not just giving then the first aid, the basic medical assistance. We are informing them that if they really need to be admitted, and if they really need consultation, they can come to West Metro because again, one of our partners is OVP.”
This collaboration that allowed us to really put in action what we want to happen and again that’s providing accessible and assured quality health care service to the people of Zamboanga.”
