OVP-DOC conducts swift and coordinated relief operations in response to consecutive natural disasters last year, reaffirming its commitment to support Filipinos in times of crisis.
The Office of the Vice President–Disaster Operations Center (OVP-DOC) mounted a series of swift and coordinated relief operations in response to consecutive natural disasters that struck the country last year, reaffirming its commitment to assist Filipinos during times of crisis.
As multiple typhoons and powerful earthquakes battered communities nationwide, the OVP-DOC mobilized its resources to address the widespread damage to infrastructure, loss of livelihood, and humanitarian needs left in their wake. Despite the scale and frequency of these calamities, the Office sustained its efforts to ensure timely assistance reached affected families.
In Luzon, the OVP-DOC responded to the impact of Typhoon Auring in San Miguel, Bulacan, one of the hardest-hit areas, where around 3,000 families from nine barangays received relief boxes to help them begin recovery. Assistance was also extended to Northern Luzon, with 4,100 families from the municipalities of Alcala and Amulung in Cagayan receiving aid following successive typhoons.
In the Visayas, the OVP–Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor Satellite Office delivered relief assistance to families affected by Typhoon Tino in Barangay Binaliw, Cebu City, and earlier supported residents of Talisay City. The OVP–Bicol Satellite Office likewise aided communities in Camarines Norte impacted by Typhoon Opong in 2025. Nearly 23 tropical cyclones entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility during the year, highlighting the magnitude of the disaster response required.
The OVP-DOC also responded to major seismic events. In October, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu, with its epicenter in San Remigio, causing significant damage to homes, public structures, and major roads, and resulting in loss of lives. In coordination with the OVP–Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor Satellite Office, as well as the Panay and Negros Islands and Eastern Visayas Satellite Offices, the OVP-DOC conducted immediate relief operations in San Remigio and nearby municipalities, including Medellin, Tabogon, Sogod, and Tabuelan.
In Mindanao, the OVP–Southern Mindanao Satellite Office promptly responded to the magnitude 7.4 and 6.9 earthquakes that hit Davao Oriental. Despite difficult conditions, successive relief operations were carried out in municipalities such as Tarragona and Manay to assist families affected by the tremors.
In line with this, Vice President Sara Duterte conveyed her deepest condolences to families who lost loved ones, assuring them of the Office’s solidarity and continued support. Through the OVP-DOC and its satellite offices nationwide, the Office of the Vice President reiterated its readiness to serve as a reliable partner of the Filipino people—providing not only immediate relief, but also compassion, hope, and sustained assistance in times of disaster and beyond.
